It’s the wedding season!!! November and December of 2010 is packed with dates when either family or friends are tying the nuptial knot. Bells ringing everywhere!!! :-) And it is when you gather for these weddings that you are most reminded by family, friends and to add to the horror, EVEN strangers, that your existence on earth has been pointless this far if you are STILL an unmarried girl at the grand old age of thirty!!!
(Something must seriously be wrong with the poor girl!)
Let’s face it… 95% of the people I know in my age group are married and about 90% of them happily so! About 60% of them are also parents to wonderful kids! Most of them are working couples who are doing a wonderful job of raising the family and earning the bread. I admire each one of them and sometimes wonder if I can fare half as well as them at this. Getting back to the point, given the above statistics, my aunts and uncles back in Kerala or anywhere else are not getting hyper tensed for nothing. Last week at a family wedding and over the days that went by before and after the wedding, they had some interesting explanations for my so called WEIRD attitude towards the holy matrimony. Here go some of them.
1. “Must be her Job. Keeps her travelling all over the place. Where will she find the time to see a boy or raise a family? SIGH (long pause) She must quit her job now” courtesy a family friend
2.“There is this mental state of mind that some women enter into… they hate men sometimes. Can’t remember what that illness is called” courtesy a relative who is also a doctor
3.“Maybe she likes someone. If so let her just tell us. We can evaluate and then refuse if the boy is no good” courtesy an aunt
4.“Maybe its Bangalore. Girls there think they know it all. She should move to Kerala!” Thank you stranger
5.“Maybe its her weight issues” you are lucky that I dont know you Ms/Mrs. Size Zero
6.“May be they need time to buy 100 sovereigns of Gold for the wedding” courtesy the domestic help
The only thing missing was an NRI cousin who could jolly well have contributed with “Maybe she’s gay!”
Well…that’s the story! and… do I care?? No!
But just to set the record straight once…and in no particular sequence of importance...

But just to set the record straight once…and in no particular sequence of importance...
1.I am straight.
2.I don’t hate men.
3.I love my job but I also love my personal life. I know when to draw the line.
4.I love Bangalore and everything about it. There is no question of moving.
5.I am not ever in my wildest dreams planning to buy Any Gold at all.
6.I have always been, currently am and will always be fat. Take it or leave it.
7.I may or may not be in love. But that does not make MARRIAGE the most urgent thing on my to-do list! I am loving everything about the current unmarried status.
Just the same way that I love kids and the thought of coming back home to a mad pot husband. The bells will however have to wait for a bit. :-)
